Multiple Sclerosis

Disability Care

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system and is a reality for over 25,000 Australians. Multiple Sclerosis is a disease where the immune system attacks the protective covering (myelin) around nerve fibers, causing communication problems between the brain, spinal cord, and nerves throughout the body. Over time, this can lead to permanent damage and deterioration of nerve function.

MS can cause a wide range of symptoms, which can differ from person to person and change over time, depending on the location of the affected nerve fibers. Some common symptoms include:

  • Numbness or weakness in one or more limbs

  • Tremors

  • Lack of coordination

  • Bowel or bladder problems

  • Electric shock sensation when bending the neck forward

  • Partial or complete vision loss

  • Slurred speech

  • Fatigue

  • Dizziness

  • Sexual dysfunction

There are several different subtypes of MS, including: Relapsing-remitting MS, Secondary progressive MS, Primary progressive MS, Progressive relapsing MS, Balo's Disease, MS in children. At Personalised Care, we believe that everyone should have access to the support they need to live their best life, regardless of the type of MS they have.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding for a variety of critical services for those with MS, including speech and occupational therapy, physiotherapy, personal care, nutritional support, and behavioral support.

Moreover, NDIS can also provide funding for a Support Worker to assist you or your loved one in the comfort of your own home. For those with children under the age of seven, NDIS funding provides early interventions, a family-centered approach, and connections to MS service providers.

Our team is here to guide you through the NDIS application process, ensuring that you receive the funding you or your loved one needs to live a fulfilling life. Our core values of being participant-centric, fostering belonging, and providing first-class care drive us to support you every step of the way.
